Role: Indigenous Liaison Coordinator
Location: Cochrane, ON (Otter Rapids)


Reporting to the Project Manager, the Indigenous Liaison plays a crucial role in facilitating our company's operations with Indigenous communities, located at Abitibi Canyon in northern Ontario. This position requires a deep understanding and respect for Indigenous culture, protocols, and the unique relationship between our company and the community.

Your primary responsibilities as an Indigenous Liaison would include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with the local Indigenous community, elders, leadership, and other key individuals;
  • Acting as a bridge between our company and the local Indigenous community, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and mutual understanding;
  • Facilitating community engagement and participation in project planning, decision-making processes, and ongoing activities;
  • Providing cultural guidance and support to ensure that our company's operations align with Indigenous values, customs, and traditions;
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of strategies and initiatives that promote Indigenous inclusion, capacity building, and economic opportunities;
  • Collaborating with project teams to integrate Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, and priorities into project plans, goals, and objectives;
  • Supporting the company's compliance with Indigenous rights, land use agreements, and regulatory requirements;
  • Serving as a resource for employees, subcontractors, and stakeholders, promoting cultural sensitivity, awareness, and respectful engagement;
  • Facilitating training and education sessions to enhance cultural competency and understanding among project personnel;
  • Monitoring and addressing any concerns or conflicts that may arise, implementing proactive measures to foster positive and collaborative relationships;
  • Documenting and reporting on community interactions, initiatives, and progress, ensuring transparency and accountability.

As an Indigenous Liaison, your dedication to fostering meaningful relationships and promoting cultural respect will contribute to the success and sustainability of our operations within the Moose Cree First Nation and Taykwa Tagamou Nation ancestral lands.

There is an expectation to work extended work schedules, which includes holidays and weekends.  Travel away from home will be required.  Preferred candidates will be open to travel and construction project work and be on a defined rotation work schedule.  Competitive living out allowance will be provided.
