Pennecon is seeking qualified individuals to work at its Qaqortoq, Airport Construction Site in Greenland. As we ramp up with this project, we are seeking motivated and talented individuals who possess the technical skills required to contribute to a heavy civil project team. 

Role: Civil Quality Coordinator
Location: St. John's, NL to start, then to site at Qaqortoq, Greenland

The successful candidates will work in the field and be responsible to support the Company’s safety, quality and environmental programs, in the execution of the work.  Your accountabilities will include:

  • Utilizing varying types of survey equipment including Aerial Survey Drones, Total stations, Data collectors, Static GPS, RTK GPS, Precision Measuring Devices;
  • Prepare quality reports, including but not limited to, inspection reports, site reports, testing reports, and daily records for submission;
  • Perform site layout, topographies and grade checks;
  • Establish site control, prepare drawings and data files for Trimble survey systems;
  • Receive field data and produce quantity reports and as-built drawings;
  • Responsible to use current survey methodology and best industry practices, including the management of technical resources and people;
  • Observe and inspect work performed by civil sub-contractors on site, ensuring compliance following drawings, specifications, and applicable codes in safety and environmental.
  • Inspect all materials and equipment supplied by subcontractor to ensure that it meets the project agreed upon standards;
  • Gathering of accurate survey data to fulfill contract specifications;
  • Assist with job costing, evaluation, and invoicing;
  • Assist with organization and development of turnover documents;
  • Any other duties as assigned.

The Ideal Applicant for this position will possess the following:

Required Education and Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Geomatics from a recognized technical school
  • 5+ years of experience as a Surveyor/Civil Technologist, or an equivalent combination of education and construction experience.
  • AutoCAD and Civil 3D experience is a must;
  • Expectation that this is a predominately field based position, ability to work in all weather elements;
  • Past experience working within a construction civil earthworks project environment;
  • Strong English writing and verbal communication;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Thorough attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies;
  • Strong work ethic – willing to do what it takes to get the job done;
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments;
  • Demonstrated safety and quality attitude;
  • Able to make good decisions working in fast paced environment working in close proximity to equipment and people;
  • Machine control knowledge is an asset.

  • Local accommodations provided, with camp construction pending
  • This position will be required to be on an extended work schedule, with longer hours and weekend work necessary to progress the project in a short construction season
