Pennecon has been awarded the Quartz Creek Bridge Replacement project which is part of the Highway 1 Kamloops to Alberta program.  This project involves replacing the two-lane bridge crossing at Quartz Creek, 40 km west of Golden, BC, with a new four-lane bridge, access improvements to forest service roads and widening 4.4 km of two-lane highway to four lanes.

We are now looking for the following position to join our team:

Role: Heavy Equipment Operator (Multiple Class)
Location: Golden, BC

This position requires operators with knowledge of topsoil stripping, granular placement, ditching and managing cut/ fill operations in clay material.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
  • Daily pre and post trip inspections
  • Daily maintenance of equipment such as checking fluids and greasing machine
  • Work safely and efficiently managing material and maintaining production goals
  • Safely travelling and setting up at work location
  • Adhere to all workplace safety policies, regulations and compliance legislation
  • Adhered to Environmental Policy with respect to Clubroot management & working near wetlands
  • Possess a good work ethic, a positive attitude and the ability to work in a team

The Ideal Applicant for this position will possess the following:

Required Education and Experience

  • Must have Heavy Equipment Training
  • 5+ years operating Dozers, Excavator, etc in production environments
  • Strong understanding of earthworks operations
  • Experience with road building adjacent to highway traffic
  • Experience operating CAT (D6-D8) 
  • Experience road building and fine grade sloping
  • Ability to use GPS Machine Control technology
  • Able to make good decisions working in fast paced environment working in close proximity to other equipment and people
  • Experience working in close proximity to various underground and overhead utilities

Additional Requirements

  • WHMIS, Power Line Hazards, CSTS, and Ground Disturbance 

Work Schedule

  • Working Time - 10 hrs per day based on 6 day on and 1 days off rotation.  OT paid at 1.5x after 8 hours, OT paid at 1.5x on Saturdays, and if required OT paid at 2.0x on Sundays.
  • Rate of pay - $34.76/hour.
