Mechanical Engineering Technologist

Location: Edmonton, AB

Reporting to the Technical Project Manager, the Mechanical Engineering Technologist will be responsible for:

  • Developing equipment drawings and specifications, in the areas of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical using Draftsight Software (2D) and Solidworks (3D)
  • Developing various monthly reports to client base for ongoing commitments;
  • Developing basic hydraulic circuitry and schematics;
  • Performing manual and computer aided take offs;
  • Reviewing client specifications and drawings to develop new equipment designs in conjunction with other company personnel;
  • Developing detailed cost estimates and sourcing of material prices from approved vendors;
  • Generating detailed shop instructions for work packages;
  • Ensuring Company specific Quality programs are abided by when performing document control activities such as client document transmittals and tracking;
  • Preparing documentation packages as required by projects in conjunction with documentation and quality personnel within PHS;
  • Assisting with the development, maintenance and implementation of engineering standards needed to ensure technical design integrity;
  • Maintaining competency in technical design standards (e.g. CSA, ASME) needed to provide engineering and design services;
  • Other duties as assigned.

To perform successfully in this position, we are looking for the following qualifications:

  • Will have a post-secondary technical qualification (ie manufacturing technologist, mechanical technologist, instrumentation technologist) OR equivalent Hydraulic System experience;
  • 5 years’ experience in hands-on technical work;
  • A demonstrated ability to read, understand, and apply design criteria, industry standards, and client specifications;
  • Proficiency in Dessault Software (2D and 3D SolidWorks);
  • Proficiency in the MS Office Suite, including MS Project;
  • A demonstrated ability to liaise with clients, contractors, and consultants;
  • Experience within an industrial fabrication shop environments is considered an asset but not required;
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English;
  • Ability to schedule and manage workloads in a Multi-Project Environment;
  • Strong attention to detail.
