Our Pennecon Heavy Civil and Renewables group is currently accepting applications for our new role of HSE Trainer and Advisor, Global Wind Organization (GWO). We’re looking to grow further in the wind energy sector and having safety front of mind is key in our strategy. Role: HSE Trainer and Safety Advisor

Location: Edmonton, AB

Reporting to our Vice President, HSEQ, and Renewable Manager .This position will have the individual advising and training employees and subcontractors working at varying Renewable Energy project sites across Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safety of all workers on site while developing, maintaining and delivering hands-on and in-class Wind Energy health, safety, and environmental courses.

Main duties for training items include:

  • Develop and administer a GWO training program
  • Administer either directly or indirectly , all site training orientations
  • Mentor trainees to impart knowledge, skill, and confidence;
  • Perform GWO and site safety audits on a routine basis
  • Conduct regular reviews of training programs to ensure up-to-date content;
  • Daily liaise with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Supervisors to determine training requirements and to keep apprised of changes to policy and procedures;
  • Organization and upkeep of company competency profile;
  • Continued dialogue and engagement with GWO standards and stakeholders
  • Climbing Wind Turbines to perform safety audits from time to time

Main duties for project safety include:

  • Maintain a highly visible and positive field presence;
  • Encouraging and promoting positive and effective employee relations,
  • Coaching employees and sub contractors
  • Timely investigation of incidents;
  • Delivery of safety orientation and completion of necessary documentation;
  • Update, maintenance, and organization of all HSEQ policies within the organization.
  • Weekly site audits

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary in a safety related field
  • GWO certification, or willingness to pursue certification
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a construction environment, preferably in the Wind Energy Sector
  • Past experience in a Training capacity, with demonstration of charisma and positive attitude
  • Demonstrated experience in developing training manuals and procedures
  • Strong fortitude and skill in technical writing, especially as it comes to policy development
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, SharePoint and MS Teams
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and management skills
  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, energetic
