Pennecon Services & Maintenance and Marine (PSMM) Group is currently accepting applications for the following position:

Controller

Location: St. John’s, NL

Reporting to the General Manager of Finance and Administration, the successful candidate will be responsible to manage the overall financial operations of the Services & Maintenance and Marine divisions, while working closely with the divisional operations management team.

The Controller will be responsible for but limited to:

  • Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions;
  • Monitoring closing processes, billing, invoicing, expenses, reimbursements, and payroll administration;
  • Monitoring budgets, using performance trends for establishment of forecasts;
  • Coaching and supervision of accounting staff;
  • Establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures;
  • Providing operational and financial support and analysis to enable quality decision making;
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvements, and implementing new process efficiencies;
  • Preparation of financial statements including note disclosures and supporting financial schedules; and
  • Participate in preparation for the annual audit.

To succeed in the position, you will have the following:

  • Accounting designation (CPA), or an equivalent combination of related experience and education;
  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior accounting position, preferable in a technical operations and services environment;
  • Possess a yearn for continuous improvement, while have demonstrated experience in successfully implementing process improvement in similar business environments;
  • Thorough understanding of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE);
  • Ability to manage a team of accounting professionals;
  • Strong knowledge of ERP and Payroll solutions;
  • Be highly detailed oriented – having the right numbers drives you forward;
  • The successful candidate will be an effective team player with a positive attitude and the ability to forge new relationships within a geographically dispersed organization; and
  • Ability to juggle multiple deadlines simultaneously, multitask, and prioritize.
