Project Engineer

Location: Ottawa

Reporting to the Project Management team, the Project Engineer will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop a complete understanding of relationship between project’s contract documents, drawings, plans, specifications and scope of work;
  • Responsible for the conversion of a set of estimate documents to an awarded project will all established project controls;
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered;
  • Inspect subordinate’s work for compliance with contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies, explain and make any necessary corrective actions;
  • Develop and maintain the project master schedule using CPM techniques and appropriate scheduling software;
  • Oversee the review of new issue drawings and contract documents for change of conditions; quantify impact of changes and review; oversee the distribution of new issues to field and to necessary subcontractors;
  • Prepare and transmit submittals (materials, vendors) to client for approval;
  • Prepare monthly cost projections and prepare quarterly cash flow projections;
  • Assist with preparing detailed, short interval schedules;
  • Manage a team of Field Engineers and set their work priorities;
  • Manage the purchase and expedite delivery of materials; manage the material control operation;
  • Assist with implementing the project quality assurance/quality control program;
  • Manage subcontracts

 

The ideal candidate will have a Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in Engineering/Technology, with a minimum of 8+ years in a construction management or supervisory capacity. Experience in civil construction (including earthworks, concrete work and/or steel structure installation) will be considered an asset.   

There is an expectation to work extended work schedules, which includes holidays and weekends.
